There are those places you return to time and time again and it’s just as magical as the first. It gets all of your senses on high. And, you could stay and take it all in for a long time. That’s how I felt during my jaunt to Chasm Lake.

My eyes felt overloaded as it all can’t be taken in with one glance. It was hard to take my eyes off of the towering peaks surrounding me. They not only are beyond amazing to see, but hold many climbing memories. And, those wispy clouds floating in the sky overhead.

The sound of the wind whistling through the rocks. The occasional rockfall being carried down the mountainsides by the snowmelt. And, we can’t leave out the occasional squeak from the resident pika and marmots.

The feel of the warm wet rock on my hands as I scrambled the final headwall. The sun that is warm enough to just take off the edge of the cold wind that’s sweeping across the snow and melting ice. I’m not sure if I’m going to end up with sunburn or windburn. Probably both.

The smell of the wet rock warming in the sun. You can’t help but close your eyes and take a big inhale.

I didn’t eat any snow or sample a rock, but my cold pizza sure tasted extra good after the effort to get there.

The power of all these moments wrapped up into this place makes for a lot of magic that you want to keep coming back to.

I couldn’t help but keep looking back over my shoulder on the hike out.
